What a Beautiful Day for a Picnic
Slinky Lycra Matte 210gsm, Order by: Fabric
With the aesthetics of the gingham print and its connotations at the forefront of my mind, I wanted to present my standpoint in bringing out the humour in ridiculing the fashion image that objectifies the body. Looking at the inversion of the subject and object I displaced recognisable features of the figure by ‘camouflaging’ the body in gingham print. Critically, simply exposing my feet or legs, not only recalls the presence of a figure, but also highlights them as the base of our support, grounding our body, as they struggle to balance the literal weight of the lampshade that rests on my head.
