Remember me
The proposed wall piece is part of my artistic reflection on the human condition. While transiency, imperfection, and impermanence are common denominators of the human experience, memory represents our only shield against the passing of time and disappearance.
Through life, we create memories that last way beyond the events that induced them, together with a delicate architecture of interpretations that links back to our personal experience. In this wall piece, the porcelain life-cast of a leaf is placed over a dark, round terracotta support, surrounded by a delicate rim. During the firing process, the original leaf burned away, leaving behind a faithful replica, its memory. The surrounding rim represents personal perception, and the round shape reminds of the infinity of possible perspectives. As time goes by, memories evolve and change, together with the impressions and interpretations we constructed around them. Similarly, as this piece went through several firing processes, materials expanded and shrank, creating cracks in the porcelain leaf as well as in the terracotta rim surrounding it. The choice of glaze evokes the image of melting ice, a reminder of the ephemeral nature of recollection.
Through this piece, I reflect on the delicate balance between what endures and what fades, inviting viewers to consider how memories are preserved, altered, and ultimately transformed by the passage of time.
