Statement

I am an interdisciplinary artist and researcher working across photography, filmmaking, sculpture, poetry, and performance. My work draws inspiration from Caribbean folklore, Afro-futurism, and intersectionality, with the goal of challenging norms and amplifying marginalised voices. By creating immersive spaces for reflection and healing, I invite audiences to engage critically with stories that have often been overlooked in history. Key body of work like 'Resilience' delves into the complexities of Black identity, particularly in the UK. My art reclaims overlooked narratives, inviting deeper engagement with themes of isolation, and community .
My early research focused on reimagining Afro-Caribbean and multi-ethnic cultural heritage through the creation of sacred objects and spaces, blending ancient African and indigenous Caribbean traditions. I approach my work with a haptic sensibility, honoring the essence of these objects while exploring their deeper cultural significance. Sculptures like 'Mother of All' are inspired by this approach and themes.
Currently, my practice centers on Caribbean storytelling as a tool for cross-cultural exchange within the diaspora. I am particularly interested in how we can archive and preserve histories, empowering diverse communities by documenting both intimate and everyday experiences. By intertwining the personal with the speculative, I aim to immortalise these stories, fostering connection and ensuring that diverse narratives are shared with authenticity.
