Blue and Green Stratified
I explore the theme of time, place and memory and look closely at the effects of weathering and degradation of structures and surfaces found in our urban infrastructure, which I see as physical memory trapped within material. I often fuse this current day environment with geological language.
Within my developing practice I use photography to record locations which are of specific relevance or interest to me and I extract elements such as texture and colour and capture them in the object-based sculptures. The geometric forms I choose are drawn from architectural references and made using materials from the construction industry, in this case, pigmented mortar. Owing to the material, texture develops over time in the work, rendering it suitable for tactile interaction. Additionally, the work is suitable for siting outdoors.
