The Colours Of A Maiko

This is The colours of a Maiko, which is a collaboration piece with my colleague Clare Garrad who is an abstract artist. The piece is 26in x 17.5 in, the idea was to combine our two practices of abstract and illustration and use our bold colour scheme to depict the Japanese geisha culture. The colours reflect how bold and bright the Japanese culture is. We wanted it to be quite striking to elevate the feminine beauty of a geisha bringing old traditional woodblock paintings to life and modernizing it by using brighter colours and texture.
