This painting was inspired by a visit to Zimbabwe where I saw many elephants in the wild but learned that although there seemed plenty they were a threatened species. The idea behind this painting is when you first see it it appears like a pleasant African landscape, but then as you tool further you see in the background the threat-the hunters ready to kill in order to get the tusks. It is on canvas and is painted in Acrylic paint. The head and tusks have been built up by a modelling paint to give the impression that the elephants are moving towards the viewer.
