Statement
I am a formally trained artist, holding both a BFA and MFA from the National Taiwan University of Fine Arts, with additional training in Prague. Since 2012, my work has been exhibited globally and collected by institutions like the National Museum of Fine Arts, Taiwan Art Bank, and various private collections. My art explores the structures of social power, using the symbolism of dogs and everyday objects to reflect human relationships in a materialistic world.Dogs, in my work, represent both humanity and nature—at once intimate companions and objects of human projection. Through them, I explore themes of social class, identity, and the domestication of wild instincts. These animals, often portrayed as still life or accessories, embody both our affection and our objectification. In gazing at them, we confront the shifting boundaries between nature and artifice, power and affection. By presenting dogs as symbols of our societal structures, my work invites viewers to reflect on their own lives and ideologies through this lens.— Jhang, Ru An (Ann)
